‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2 Reaction:’ Film Packs a Heavy Punch (Video)

TheWrap’s resident fanboy Umberto Gonzalez has seen the sequel to the hit Marvel film — here is his take

“Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2” opens in theaters tonight, but before you see it, TheWrap’s resident fanboy Umberto Gonzalez and film producer Daniel Alter share their thoughts about the latest Marvel Studios blockbuster in the latest edition of Heroic Insider. See the clip above.

Gonzalez says the film is “much bigger” and is a “very emotional movie that packs a heavy punch.” “It sets up and continues Marvel’s foray into the cosmic universe,” adds Gonzalez.

“Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2.” stars Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Bradley Cooper, Vin Diesel and Dave Bautista, along with Kurt Russell and Michael Rooker. It was written and directed by James Gunn.

The film has had a huge social media presence ahead of its release, and is already tracking a huge opening weekend. Disney is expecting “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2” to pull in at least $140 million domestically this weekend after the film racked up $132.9 million from 37 overseas markets this past week. And Independent trackers estimate it’s more likely to hit the $150-170 million range .

But ticket presale data hints that the film might get an opening that could rival the studio’s crown jewels — the “Avengers” movies. According to Fandango, ticket presales for “Guardians 2” are outpacing that of the “Avengers” sequel released in 2015. We saw Disney enjoy a similar trend earlier this year, when “Beauty and the Beast” passed “Finding Dory” to become the top family film preseller in the history of the site.
