Based on the high-concept novel by Hugh Howey, “Wool” is a futuristic tale where Earth’s air is no longer breathable and the world’s last community lives underground in a giant silo.
Zaillian and Garrett Basch are producing for Film Rites, while Scott is producing via his company Scott Free.
Perlman is rewriting the script by J Blakeson (“The 5th Wave”) before the producers take the project out to directors, as no one is attached at this time.
“Wool” was one of Hollywood’s hottest projects when 20th Century Fox acquired the property in a heated bidding war back in 2012. The self-published e-book became a word-of-mouth sensation and sold more than 140,000 copies in under six months. Howey later wrote The Shift Trilogy, which serves as a precursor to “Wool.”
Perlman is credited with co-writing Marvel’s “Guardians of the Galaxy,” which grossed nearly $800 million worldwide. The studio also hired Perlman to co-write “Captain Marvel” with “Inside Out” scribe Meg LaFauve.
Perlman is represented by CAA, Management 360 and attorney Andrew Hurwitz.
