Gwar frontman Dave Brockie, who went by the stage name Oderus Urungus, was found dead in his apartment Sunday night. He was 50.
Police in Richmond, Va., went to Brockie’s home Sunday night in response to a report that someone had died, police spokesman Gene Lepley told TheWrap.

“Detectives do not suspect foul play at this time and the Medical Examiner’s Office will determine cause of death,” Lepley said.
Former Gwar guitarist Steve Douglas spoke about the passing on Facebook, writing: “I have had a few bad days in my life but this one truly ranks right up there… Dave Brockie, I do not know what happened to you yet, but I know you are gone and it is hurting very badly!”
Former Gwar bassist Mike Bishop told StyleWeekly: “Dave was one of the funniest, smartest, most creative and energetic persons I’ve known. He was brash sometimes, always crass, irreverent, he was hilarious in every way. But he was also deeply intelligent and interested in life, history, politics and art.”

Gwar’s newest album, “Battle Maximus” came out in September. Just a few days ago, the metal band announced Aug. 16 as the date for its fifth annual GWAR-B-Q at Hadad’s Water Park in Richmond.
In 2011, guitarist Cory Smoot, aka Flattus Maximus, died while on tour with the band.
