‘Hands of Stone’ First Teaser Brings Robert De Niro Back Into Boxing Ring (Video)

Edgar Ramirez plays renowned boxer Roberto Durán during dramatic face-off with Sugar Ray Leonard (Usher Raymond)

The Weinstein Company dropped the first teaser trailer for boxing biopic “Hands of Stone,” about one of the world’s most legendary fighters, Roberto Durán Samaniego.

Edgar Ramirez (“Joy,” “Point Break”) stars as the Panamanian boxer, considered to be one of the greatest fighters to ever live, while Oscar-winning “Raging Bull” star Robert De Niro steps back into the ring as Duran’s coach.

Durán enjoyed an unusually long career, starting his life in the ring at 16 years old in 1968, and retiring in 2002 at age 50.

Usher Raymond plays Sugar Ray Leonard, who lost the WBC welterweight title to Durán in a memorable 1980 match-up.

The following November, the Latin boxer shocked sports fans during a rematch — when he approached Leonard’s corner and said “no mas” (no more).

Written and directed by Venezuelan filmmaker Jonathan Jakubowicz, the film also stars Ana de Armas, Ellen Barkin, and John Turturro.

“Hands of Stone” enters theaters Aug. 26.
