Richard Plepler’s Eden Productions has hired Heather Karpas as a creative executive.

Karpas, who spent the past eight years with ICM as a literary agent, will be responsible for development for Eden Productions.

“I am thrilled to welcome Heather to the Eden family,” said Plepler. “Her taste and keen eye for quality match perfectly with the type of content we are looking to create. I’m very excited to welcome her to our new company.”

With ICM, Karpas represented New York Times best-selling author Taffy Brodesser-Akner, Allison P. Davis, the media company TheSkimm, and many other prominent novelists and non-fiction writers. She will be based out of Eden’s New York headquarters.

Plepler’s company, formed following the longtime HBO CEO’s departure from the network last year, has a five-year exclusive production deal with Apple TV+. Eden will create television series, documentaries and feature films for the streamer, with a focus on “few select programs.”

Plepler left HBO last February as its new owner, AT&T, was re-fashioning Time Warner into WarnerMedia. Plepler’s departure came as former NBC Entertainment chairman Bob Greenblatt was being installed to the same post atop WarnerMedia, which is launching its own streaming service, HBO Max, next May.

Plepler’s deal with Apple means he will be supplying one of his old company’s main competitors in streaming.
