NBCU Digital Taps Hilary Smith as Senior VP, Communications

Will oversee communications for Television Without Pity, Fandango and DailyCandy in newly created position

Hilary Smith, former senior VP of communications in NBC Universal's Women & Lifestyle Entertainment Networks Division, has been promoted to a newly created position, NBCU announced on Monday.

In her new job as senior VP, communications, NBC Universal Entertainment & Digital Networks and Integrated Media [E&DN/IM], Smith will oversee communications for the NBCU properties Fandango, Television Without Pity, DailyCandy and Swirl, as well as the company's recently announced Hispanics at NBCU initiative.

Smith will also retain her previous duties overseeing communications for the female-targeted sales and marketing initiative Women at NBCU. And she will stay involved with iVillage, the environmental initiative Green Is Universal and the health initiative Healthy at NBCU.

In addition to overseeing corporate messaging and media outreach for each of the above, Smith will also be responsible for creating an "overarching communications strategy to help leverage both digital and integrated marketing synergies across the entire (entertainment and digital networks/integrated media] portfolio"), according to an NBCU release.

In her new position, Smith will report to Nicholas Lehman, president of digital for E&DN/IM, and Cameron Blanchard, executive vice president, communications, E&DN/IM.  

In making the announcement, Lehman called Smith a a savvy communications expert who understands the nuances of the digital space" who "is the ideal person to spearhead communications across our newly formed digital portfolio, which is a key growth area for the company.”

Smith joined NBC in 2002, as vice president of media relations in the company’s Corporate Communications department. Prior to NBC, Smith worked as a public relations manager for CBS News.
