‘Homeland’ and ‘Heroes’ Co-Creators Bringing Conspiracy Event Series to USA Network

The six episode commitment is the first for Jeff Wachtel in his new role as head of NBCUniversal Cable Entertainment

The co-creators of “Homeland” and “Heroes” are bringing an action adventure event series to USA Network.

Universal Cable Productions (UCP) announced Wednesday the six episode commitment for “Dig,” a drama from co-creators and executive producers Gideon Raff (“Homeland”) and Tim Kring (“Heroes”). The series, which was developed by Israeli media company, Keshet, in association with BermanBraun, marks the first project commitment since Jeff Wachtel was tapped for the newly created role of president and chief content officer and studio head for NBCUniversal Cable Entertainment.

“Dig” tells the story of Peter, an FBI agent stationed in Jerusalem who, while investigating a murder of a woman archeologist, uncovers a conspiracy 2000 years in the making that threatens to change the course of history.

“As we enter this new chapter for our studio and our portfolio, we’ve been looking for a project that makes a statement,” Wachtel said. “This team of storytellers has put together a smart, sophisticated and compelling show that will hit the market with a big bang and a lasting impression.”

The mayor of Jerusalem, Nir Barkat, added, “When we combine Hollywood’s creative potential with Jerusalem’s historic backdrop, it will result in the ability to connect hundreds of millions of viewers around the world to this unique and beautiful city. There is an undeniable inspiration and creative energy in Jerusalem, which is why it has become a center for international film production.”

“Dig” will premiere on USA Network in late 2014. Keshet Media Group CEO Avi Nir and Gail Berman, Lloyd Braun and Gene Stein of BermanBraun also serve as executive producers.
