The fourth Democratic debate, hosted by CNN and the New York Times, will be held Tuesday night in Westerville, Ohio. It will feature 12 candidates — the largest debate field on a single stage so far — and be held from 5 p.m. PT to 8 p.m. PT.
The debate is notable as it will be Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders’ first major appearance since undergoing surgery following a heart attack earlier this month. It will mark the first appearance of billionaire activist Tom Steyer. After threatening to boycott the debate over “DNC/corporate media’s effort to rig 2020 primary,” Hawaii Rep. Tulsi Gabbard will also be on stage Tuesday after failing to qualify for the September debate.
The other candidates participating in the debate are: Vice President Joe Biden; New Jersey Sen. Cory Booker; Mayor Pete Buttigieg of South Bend, Indiana; former Housing Secretary Julián Castro; California Sen. Kamala Harris; Minnesota Sen. Amy Klobuchar; former Texas Rep. Beto O’Rourke; Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren; and entrepreneur Andrew Yang.
Candidates qualified for October’s debate by having both 130,000 individual donors and reaching at least 2% in four qualifying polls approved by the Democratic National Convention between June 28 and Oct. 1.
The podium order, from left to right, will be Gabbard, Steyer, Booker, Harris, Sanders, Biden, Warren, Buttigieg, Yang, O’Rourke, Klobuchar and Castro. Sanders, Biden and Warren — the three highest polling candidates — will be center stage.
The debate will be moderated by CNN anchors Erin Burnett and Anderson Cooper, and New York Times national editor Marc Lacey.
