A couple of noteworthy updates from the world of Arianna Huffington.
First, the Huffington Post sports vertical she’s been threatening to launch – first reported here – went live Wednesday. Huffington, naturally, introduced the site in a blog post:
“Last month, HuffPost launched two new sections that I felt a very deep and personal connection to. Books have been a lifelong passion of mine, and our Impact section, dedicated to service, causes, and giving back, is an idea I’ve been pursuing in one form or another for over 15 years. Today we are launching another new section, this one covering a subject I have never really cared that much about — sports.”
Meanwhile, Huffington, who is in Monaco at the Monaco Media Forum, got into a bit of a verbal scuffle with Axel Springer CEO Mathias Dopfner and France 24 TV CEO Christine Ockrent, who was moderating a panel discussion between the two. Rafat Ali, who was also there, said the apparent clash “perfectly illustrates the tensions between traditional news media, and the news upstarts like HuffPo and amateur/citizen journalists in general.”
