The Huffington Post Poaches Another New York Times Reporter

Tom Zeller, the paper’s energy reporter, jumps to AOL/HuffPo as senior reporter, energy and environment

Arianna's done it again.

Huffington has convinced another New York Times reporter to jump ship — this time Tom Zeller, the paper's energy reporter, who has been hired as senior reporter, energy and environment for the AOL Huffington Post Media Group.

Zeller will "cover the economic and social implications of energy and climate policy," Huffington said, including "the impact on the health of our communities. He’s shown that he can deliver game-changing, in-depth investigative reporting using all the multimedia tools online journalism has to offer."

Zeller — who has spent nearly a decade at the Times (minus a year at National Geographic) — said that while "walking through the doors of the New York Times every day" has been "a great source of pride," the allure of Arianna's business model was too strong to ignore.

"It's critically important that we continue developing and nurturing a diverse new ecosystem of quality journalism across a variety of platforms and business models," Zeller said. "And I think the news operation that Arianna and her team are building at AOL Huffington Post Media Group is just so vital in this regard — and the energy and enthusiasm there is so palpable — I'm just thrilled to be coming on board to help move it forward."

Last September, Huffington's lured the Times' Peter Goodman, national economic correspondent and business writer, to become the site’s business and technology editor.

Also on Monday, Huffington announced that Paul Raushenbush, associate dean of religious life at Princeton University, is leaving the school to become the full-time senior editor of HuffPost Religion.
