iPad 3 Speculation Picks Up as Best Buy, Other Retailers Cut Price of iPad 2

Apple is expected to unveil its latest tablet on March 7

Apple speculators and technology writers have found another piece of evidence that Apple will unveil its iPad 3 at a media event March 7 – the price of the iPad 2 just dropped.

Best Buy cut its price for the popular tablet by $50, and other retailers have made similar offers. The cheapest one at Best Buy is still $450, but hey, it's a steal!

AllThingsD’s John Paczkowski sees the writing on the wall, noting “some of Apple’s big-box retail partners are starting to clear out their iPad 2 inventory in preparation for its arrival.”

Or, as VentureBeat’s Tom Cheredar put it, “the timing of Best Buy’s sale may be yet another indication that the world’s most valuable company is getting ready to announce the iPad 3.”

Apple likes to keep a tight lid on these announcements, and blamed speculation about an iPhone 5 for its sub-par Q4 earnings.

But in case you missed it, its Q1 earnings for fiscal 2012 left everyone drooling, and catapulted Apple past Exxon Mobil as the most valuable company in the world.
