It’s a Hit! MTV’s ’16 and Pregnant’ Delivers Huge Ratings

Move over, Snooki: There’s a new monster success at MTV

It’s not all Snooki and J-Woww at MTV these days: "16 and Pregnant" is turning out to be quite the bundle of joy for the cable network.

Wednesday’s second-season premiere of the docusoap delivered a series-best 3.4 million viewers, beating NBC’s Olympics coverage among women under 34 and ranking as the most-watched program on cable for the day, MTV said.

"Preggers" also drew more viewers than a number of primetime shows on broadcast TV last night, including repeats of ABC’s "Cougar Town" and repeats of "Life Unexpected" and "Gossip Girl" on The CW. Among all viewers 12-34, the show beat everything on broadcast TV Wednesday except for "American Idol" and the Olympics.

Not surprisingly, "Preggers" did best among young women, averaging a 5.3 rating among girls and women 12-34 and a stunning 8.0 with women 18-24.

MTV’s bouncing baby hit has been on a major growth spurt since it was born last year. Wednesday’s season two premiere more than doubled the audience of the series premiere and also showed major improvement vs. last summer’s season-one finale (2.1 million viewers).

"16 and Pregnant" follows expectant teen moms as they attempt to deal with an unplanned pregnancy.
