Yes, Amazon Is ‘Determined’ to Find a Jack Reacher-Sized Jack Reacher

TCA 2020: “You may see us take our time really making sure we find that person,” Jen Salke says

Jack Reacher has hands the size of Thanksgiving turkeys. You know, unless the beloved character in the popular novels is being played by 5’7″ Tom Cruise on the silver screen.

That big-name, small-stature casting didn’t sit well with some diehard fans — a mistake (to some) that won’t be repeated on Amazon’s TV version, which was just ordered to series today.

“It’s pretty interesting. I spent a lot of time talking to David Ellison about this,” head of Amazon Studios Jennifer Salke said Tuesday at the Television Critics Association press tour. “We really are determined to find somebody who can embody that character for Lee and for all of us. We think that is a great thing and that’s what we want to do.”

“So, you may see us take our time really making sure we find that person whether they exist in our purview or they are a new discovery from somewhere,” Salke continued. “So, we’re going to do an extensive exploration of who could step into those big, big shoes.”

Later, TheWrap confirmed that Salke was referring to the actual physical bigness of the Reacher character, and not just picking vague terms that can be interpreted later in other convenient ways.

Hey, we’re just covering the fanbase’s bases.
