James Taylor Confuses ‘America the Beautiful’ for National Anthem During World Series (Video)

The singer began belting out the wrong patriotic song at the start of Game 2 of The World Series

James Taylor almost joined a number of other singers who completely messed up their performance of “The Star-Spangled Banner” at a televised sporting event when he kicked off Game 2 of The World Series on Thursday. But the 65-year-old musician proved he was a pro when he effortlessly averted disaster.

Taylor began his performance by singing “America the Beautiful,” but then quickly realized his mistake without missing a beat.

“Oh, beautiful — Oh, say can you see,” he sang as he launched into his otherwise adequate performance in front of the Boston crowd waiting to watch the Red Sox beat the St. Louis Cardinals.

If anybody noticed Taylor’s gaffe, they probably forgot by the end of the game because Boston lost, leaving the series tied 1-1.

And remember, it could have been worse. He could have been caught lip-syncing — or pulled a Christina Aguilera.
