“Jane Got a Gun” has endured major cast and director shake-ups, but will finally ride into theaters on Aug. 29, 2014.

The revisionist western stars Natalie Portman as a woman in the Old West who is tormented by the ultraviolent Bishop Boys outlaw gang and has to turn to her former fiancee (Joel Edgerton) for help. Ewan McGregor stars as the gang’s leader.

Scheduling conflicts led to the departures of original stars Bradley Cooper, Jude Law and Michael Fassbender, while the project’s initial director Lynne Ramsay (“We Need to Talk About Kevin”) was replaced by Gavin O’Connor (“Warrior”) after filming was slated to begin.

Relativity is distributing the film.
