Lynch discussed her late "Glee" co-star, who died Saturday in a Vancouver hotel room following an accidental overdose, on Wednesday's "Tonight Show." She described him as "one of the biggest hearts, [he] was a real bright light."
"He was always aware that [the show's success] was a gift and he was quite generous and one of those adventurous types of people," she told Jay Leno. "You know, I always admired how he would get up and, you know, he'd fly to Mexico, he'd throw parties for his friends."
She added: "I don't think he left one day unlived and he was a real bright light in our family, we've lost a really great guy."
When Leno asked how Lynch wanted people to remember Monteith, she told him about how Monteith "once flew across the country on his own nickel to meet with a sick kid who, his last wish was to meet him."
"That's the kind of guy he was."
