Janet Jackson Will Open MTV VMAs Sunday

She’ll pay tribute to her late brother with a musical production number.

Janet Jackson will kick off Sunday’s MTV Video Music Awards with a musical tribute to her late brother.

MTV confirmed Tuesday that Jackson will "make a special apperance" and "will help open the entire show to honor Michael (Jackson’s) celebrated career.

The network denied a report by TMZ.com, however, that claimed choreographer Frank Gaston is involved in the tribute. MTV called it "erroneous."

The wording of MTV’s release– Jackson "will help" open the show– could indicate that other major celebs will be on hand as well to honor the fallen icon.

The VMAs will air Sunday night at 9 (PT/ET).
