Never mind the Mercedes-Benz; maybe the Lord will buy you this freaky little icon of automotive history.

Janis Joplin’s psychedelically painted 1965 Porsche 356C Cabriolet is going up for auction in December, according to Sotheby’s.

The car, which Joplin purchased in 1968 and tooled around Los Angeles and San Francisco in during the hippie heyday, will be auctioned off as part of the Driven to Disruption sale in New York, which takes place December 10 — so if you have a friend who literally has everything except a psychedelically painted Porsche once owned by Janis Joplin, this is your opportunity to pick up the perfect Christmas present.

The Porsche, which originally bore a Pearl White finish, was adorned by Joplin friend and Big Brother and the Holding Company roadie Dave Richards with a kaleidoscopic mural that was intended to represent “The History of the Universe.”

Joplin died in 1970, and the car has remained in her family’s possession since. The Porsche, which Sotheby’s says was restored “by the early 1990s,” has been featured at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum for two decades.

The auction will also include “a carefully curated selection of some 30 creatively styled and pioneering motor cars, and select automotive-themed artwork.”
