Jared Leto, Celine Dion Pay Emotional Tribute to Paris at AMAs (Video)

“The entire world matters and peace is possible,” Oscar-winning actor says introducing singer

Academy Award winner Jared Leto introduced Celine Dion in an emotional tribute to the city of Paris Sunday night at the American Music Awards.

“France matters,” Leto said, before adding, “Russia matters. Syria matters. Mali matters. The United States matters. The entire world matters, and peace is possible.”

With political pressure mounting this week against efforts to welcome Syrian immigrants in the United States following the Nov. 13 terror attacks in Paris, Leto also noted that many great Americans have been the children of immigrants. Apple founder Steve Jobs, he noted, was the son of a Syrian refugee.

Leto then introduced Celine Dion, who sang Edith Piaf’s classic tune “Hymne à L’Amour.”
