Peter Chernin restacked the deck at the film department of Chernin Entertainment on Wednesday, promoting Jenno Topping to president of the division and hiring David Ready as senior vice president.
Topping (left), a former HBO Films executive and veteran movie producer, will oversee the development and production of films for the company and report directly to Chernin. She has produced 12 films in her career and has been working on Chernin Entertainment’s upcoming “The Heat,” which stars Melissa McCarthy and Sandra Bullock.
Topping succeeds Ryan Clark, a former Universal executive who is now producing movies for the company.
Ready comes to Chernin Entertainment from di Bonaventura Pictures, where he was senior vice president of Production. While working for di Bonaventura, he co-produced “Red” and was working on both the sequel to that film and “Jack Ryan.”
At Chernin, he will oversee the development and production of films, reporting to Topping.
After leaving News Corp. in 2009, Chernin launched The Chernin Group, a company that has made strategic investments in media companies like Pandora and Flipboard and whose assets include Chernin Entertainment and Asia-based investment firm CA Media. In addition to “The Heat," Chernin Entertainment’s upcoming films include Joseph Kosinski’s “Oblivion,” starring Tom Cruise, and “Dawn of the Planet of the Apes.”
