Universal Pictures announced on Tuesday that it will release “355,” the espionage thriller starring Jessica Chastain and Lupita Nyong’o, on Jan. 15, 2021.

Penelope Cruz, Diane Kruger, Fan Bingbing, Sebastian Stan and Edgar Ramirez will also star in the film, which is being directed and co-written by longtime “X-Men” producer Simon Kinberg. The film follows several women from different espionage backgrounds who come together to stop a global terrorist plot.

“355” was first pitched to potential buyers at the 2018 Cannes Film Festival, triggering a bidding war for distribution rights that was won by Universal with a reported bid of over $20 million. Global Road and Amazon Studios were also among the bidders.

Filming on the project began last month in Europe. Kinberg is producing with Chastain and Kelly Carmichael and sharing writing credit with Theresa Rebeck.
