Jimmy Fallon Challenges Pharrell to a Song-Naming Battle (Video)

Comedian and musician compete to name hit songs picked by The Roots

Pharrell Williams tested his pop music IQ against Jimmy Fallon with a “Name That Song Challenge” on Monday’s “The Tonight Show.”

The challenge was simple: Fallon and Williams would both hear a song picked by The Roots, which would start with a single instrument and then build to include the entire band. First person to buzz in gets to guess, and the first to guess four correct wins.

Fallon pulled out to an early lead with correct guesses of A-Ha’s “Take on Me” and Oasis’ “Wonder Wall,” but Williams pulled even by guessing Simple Minds’ “Don’t You” and Johnny Kemp’s “Just Got Paid.”

Finally, with the score tied at three, Williams pulled out the victory with a song he knows all too well: Snoop Dogg’s “Drop It Like It’s Hot,” which Williams produced for the rapper back in 2004.

Pharrell Williams’ latest songs will be featured in “Despicable Me 3,” which is out in theaters this Friday. Check out his battle with Fallon in the clip above.
