Democratic presidential candidate Sen. Bernie Sanders is fully recovered from a heart attack he suffered three weeks ago despite requiring surgery, but you can forgive Jimmy Kimmel if he wanted to take a second look.
The Vermont Senator appeared Wednesday on “Jimmy Kimmel Live,” which is doing its annual Brooklyn week. After Sanders said he was doing great, Kimmel replied, “I’ll be the judge of that.” Then he did what any respectable late-night host would do: He broke out his stethoscope and checked Sanders’ heart himself.
“I think it’s important, because after what happened last time we elected a president, we need to know that you even have a heart,” Kimmel explained.
The Vermont senator was hospitalized three weeks ago after suffering an artery blockage, which forced him to briefly suspend his campaign and miss the Equality Town Hall on Oct. 10. Sanders suffered the attack while in Las Vegas, which made Kimmel wonder if it was “buffet related.”
“It turns out, unbeknownst to me, that I had an artery that wasn’t functioning very well,” Sanders explained.
After spending the next few days recovering from home, Sanders returned to the campaign trail. During last the Democratic debate on Oct. 15, Sanders addressed his health for the first time stating:
“I’m healthy, I’m feeling great.”
