HBO is taking a run at the classic sci-fi film “Westworld.”
The premium cable network has given a pilot production commitment to a series adaptation of the 1973 film.

The one-hour drama is being executive produced by J.J. Abrams, Jerry Weintraub and Bryan Burk. Jonathan Nolan (“Person of Interest”) is writing and directing as well as executive producing, with Lisa Joy (“Burn Notice”) also writing and executive producing.
Kathy Lingg is co-executive producing.
Inspired by the Michael Crichton film, which starred Yul Brynner, Richard Benjamin and James Brolin, the project is described as “a dark odyssey about the dawn of artificial consciousness and the future of sin.”
Abrams’ Bad Robot Productions, Jerry Weintraub Productions and Kilter Films are producing in association with Warner Bros. Television.
