Nancy Grace Reacts to Jodi Arias Guilty Verdict

Nancy Grace calls Travis Alexander death "slaughter," recounts a "single wail" in courtroom as verdict was read

HLN personality and perpetual outrage machine Nancy Grace weighed in on the guilty verdict of Jodi Arias — who was convicted of first-degree murder on Wednesday for the death of her  ex-boyfriend, Travis Alexander — calling Alexander's death a "slaughter."

"Repeat guilty, guilty of Murder 1 in the death, the slaughter of unarmed Travis Alexander," Grace intoned as she read off the verdict Wednesday afternoon.

Grace, whose network HLN has relentlessly covered the Arias trial, also noted that a quietness fell over the courtroom as the verdict was read, aside from a lone cry.

"You could hear in the courtroom one single wail; I don't know if it was out of relief or sorrow," Grace said.

Arias was accused of planning the June 2008 death of Alexander in his Mesa, Ariz., home in a fit of jealousy. Arias' story changed throughout the investigation, at first claiming she had nothing to do with the death, then blaming it on intruders before finally claiming self-defense.

During her testimony, Arias claimed that Alexander had become abusive and attacked her. A defense expert had testified that Arias suffered from post-traumatic stress disorder and memory loss in the period since Travis' death.
