“Morning Joe” host Joe Scarborough made some harsh predictions for Republicans on MSNBC Friday, as he considered the possibility the GOP-majority Senate will acquit President Donald Trump in his impeachment trial.
The acquittal will benefit the Democrats at the ballot box, the former GOP congressman concluded, saying, “A friend called me yesterday who’s a big Democratic contributor and he said why it’s best for the Democrats in the long run that they get this information out now, for Republicans to vote it down and shoot themselves in the political foot.”
“Every one of these Republicans are going to be held accountable for them obstructing justice, obstructing a fair hearing by obstructing the calling of additional witnesses like John Bolton, who knows exactly what happened,” Scarborough added. “They will be seen as the people rigging this trial and it’s just going to hurt them.”
“The Republicans have shamed themselves already. They’re going to vote to acquit. This information is going to come out anyway in a far less controlled manner,” Scarborough said later in his show, pointing out that former national security adviser Bolton’s book about his time in the White House hasn’t been released yet. (Trump has already gone on the defense a month before the book’s release, insulting Bolton on Twitter and calling the book “nasty and untrue.”)
“The truth will be known. It will be shouted from the mountaintops. It’s just going to make the Republicans look worse,” he concluded.

Scarborough has been criticizing his former colleagues for their support of Trump heavily in recent months, using his morning MSNBC program to tell them the impeachment trial is about “history” and imploring them to come on the show, which he says they refuse to do.
