John Leguizamo honored Bob Hoskins on Wednesday by remembering their time together making the recently-deceased actor’s “biggest disappointment” — the “Super Mario Bros.” movie.
“Never worked a more gentle kind and talented actor,” Leguizamo tweeted, along with a series of screen shots from the 1993 video game adaptation. “Rest in perpetuity! My Mario brother!”
The movie, co-starring the late Dennis Hopper as reptilian villain King Koopa, is remembered as one of the worst video game adaptations of all time.

As Roger Ebert once put it: “It’s just a lot of people running around, all talking at once, in a plot that nobody cares anything about…it’s a complete waste of time and money.”
Still, Leguizamo told a fan on Wednesday he has grown to “love it.”
As of 2011, however, Hoskins still hated it. In a Q&A with the Guardian, the Oscar nominee best known for the beloved classic “Who Framed Roger Rabbit” gave three simple answers to illustrate just how much he hated it.

Leguizamo looks back at his time as Luigi more fondly, and credits Hoskins for holding “that movie together with his lust for life.”
