Jonathan Gold Tastes His Way Through LA Restaurants in ‘City of Gold’ Trailer (Video)

The documentary featuring LA Times’ Pulitzer-winning food critic opens March 11, 2016

Pulitzer Price-winning food critic Jonathan Gold explores Los Angeles in the hopes of finding the next best eatery in the new trailer for “City of Gold.”

In the trailer, Gold shows audiences that ethnic cooking is a portal into the mysteries and the soul of America and proves that food can connect people all over the world.

“We are all citizens of the world, strangers together,” a voiceover proclaimed.

Calling himself the “fat man’s version of the ‘Bourne Identity,’” Gold goes to restaurants undercover — using different aliases and throwaway phones every time in his work for the Los Angeles Times. Through that process, he has discovered many stories of immigrants and their family recipes.

The film will open on March 11, 2016. Laura Gabbert directed the film, which made its world premiere at the Sundance Film Festival in January.
