Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Meghan McCain Shows to Air on Participant Media’s Cable Network

Partipant Media's millennials-courting cable network will launch Aug. 1

Participant Media, the company behind such films as "An Inconvenient Truth," announced the launch date of its new cable network aimed at millennials on Wednesday, along with programming that includes offerings from Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Meghan McCain, the daughter of Sen. John McCain.

The new network, dubbed pivot, will launch on Aug. 1, with 40+ million subscribers at the time of its launch and more than 300 hours of original programming, including six new greenlit series.

Among the greenlights: An "open source" variety show, "HitRECord on TV!" from Joseph Gordon-Levitt. Hosted and co-produced by Gordon-Levitt, the series — which has been greenlit for seven half-hour episodes, will feature Levitt focusing on a different theme each week as he "invites and encourages anybody with an internet connection to join him and contribute."

McCain, meanwhile, will be the subject of a "genre-busting docu-talk series" dubbed "Raising McCain" that will follow her as she hits the road to speak to "unexpected experts, regular people and members of her generation, exploring the most important and unusual questions of the day framed by Meghan’s experiences in her personal life." The series has received an order for 10 half-hour episodes.

Also on deck for pivot when it launches in April: a "no-holds-barred live show" titled "TakePart Live"; "Jersey Strong," a "docu-soap" series that will follow two families from opposite sides of the tracks; the historical-but-edgy drama "Will," about a young William Shakespeare; and a documentary series from Univision New and Latin World Entertainment.

The cable network will also host the world television premieres of Participant Media documentaries such as "We Are Legion" and "99% — The Occupy Wall Street Collaborative Film."
