Joss Whedon Talks Shakespeare with Stephen Colbert (Video)

The writer-director's take on "Much Ado About Nothing" opens wide June 21

Writer-director Joss Whedon stopped by The Colbert Report to discuss his latest film, "Much Ado About Nothing," based off the Shakespeare play.

Whedon described "Ado" as "the original will-they-or-won't-they" to a skeptical Colbert, who wondered why anyone would like Shakespeare.

Colbert — whose poetic prose is difficult to understand– asked if "Ado's" warring couple Beatrice and Benedict were anything like Whedon's Buffy and Angel.

"I think that's what [Shakespeare] was going for," Whedon replied.

Colbert also asked if the reason why Whedon shot the entire film in his own home was a "tax dodge." Whedon replied that it was to keep the film's budget down to "micro" levels.
