Karen Gillan has responded to the social media furor surrounding the skimpy outfit the actress will wear as Ruby Roundhouse in next year’s “Jumanji” remake.

“Yes I’m wearing child sized clothes and YES there is a reason!” Gillan tweeted. “The payoff is worth it, I promise!”

Her co-star, Dwayne Johnson, made a similar promise when he revealed the first picture of the main cast on Facebook Tuesday. While Johnson, Kevin Hart and Jack Black sport traditional jungle explorer attire, Gillan is shown wearing a miniskirt and a midriff-baring top. Though Johnson assured fans that Gillan’s outfit was tied to the plot, some still expressed their displeasure on Twitter.

Some fans of the original “Jumanji” speculate that Johnson and Gillan may be alluding to the character Robin Williams played in 1995. In the original film, Williams played a man who was sucked into the eponymous game as a child and who only emerged from it decades later when two new kids found the cursed game board and decide to play it. Gillan’s character may undergo the same fate, with her revealing outfit being the clothes she wore as a little girl when she first found the game.

We will find out when “Jumanji” hits theaters on July 28 of next year.
