FX’s modern western is saddling up for one final ride into the sunset. The sixth and final season of “Justified” is on the horizon, and the network’s first teaser promises the epic showdown fans have been waiting five years for.
What started as the story of Texas ranger Raylan Givens (Timothy Olyphant) quickly became the story of two men on opposite sides of the law. Walton Goggins recurred in the first season as the unpredictable Boyd Crowder, but quickly became a favorite and a series regular.
While we didn’t know it at first, this was always the story of both men, and their shared history in rural Kentucky. The wily Boyd has shifted allegiances and motivations countless times, while Raylan has been consistent and driven.
Their confrontation is poised to be the stuff of legend, with a hint of sarcasm. All of that was captured perfectly in a short tease that opened with a fake-out. Panning in on Raylan’s signature white cowboy hat, we see a gun raised to his back. Only Raylan is the one holding the gun, and it’s Boyd who’s wearing the hat.
The scene culminates with the two men in the only way that it can, guns raised and pointing at one another. Can both survive the series?
The sixth and final season of “Justified” premieres in January 2015 on FX.
