‘Synchronic’ Directors on Working in an Industry That is Much More ‘Woke’ (Exclusive Video)

Toronto Film Festival 2019: “I think everyone agrees it’s wonderful right now,” director Aaron Moorhead tells TheWrap’s Sharon Waxman

“Synchronic” directors Justin Benson and Aaron Moorhead dropped by TheWrap’s Studio at the Toronto Film Festival and discussed their sci-fi thriller along with working in an industry that is much more “woke” than it had been before. Check out the clip above.

“I think everyone agrees it’s wonderful right now because it’s not like we are not missing out on a bunch of jobs or anything like that,” director Aaron Moorhead tells TheWrap’s Sharon Waxman. “It’s just that you get to see everybody’s voice starting to get heard. We get better and better movies all the time.”

“I just feel like there are better movies out there now because there are more unique stories because we are allowing people with different points of views to tell those stories,” added director Justin Benson.

“Synchronic” is a sci-fi thriller which follows two New Orleans paramedics (Anthony Mackie and Jamie Dornan) whose lives are ripped apart after encountering a series of horrific deaths linked to a designer drug with bizarre, otherworldly effects.

“Synchronic” was directed by Benson and Moorhead with a script written by Benson.

The film was produced by David Lawson Jr. along with Moorhead and Benson for Rustic Films. XYZ Films is handling international sales, with XYZ co-repping domestic rights with UTA.
