In a cryptic Twitter storm on Tuesday, Kanye West said he’s “distancing” himself from politics and said he was “used to spread messages” he no longer believes in.

“My eyes are now wide open and now realize I’ve been used to spread messages I don’t believe in,” West tweeted. “I am distancing myself from politics and completely focusing on being creative !!!”

Reps for the rapper did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

West also denied that he had designed the logo and merchandise for a political campaign called “Blexit” aimed at convincing black voters to leave the Democratic Party. Alt-right provocateur Candace Owens, who originated the project, had thanked West for designing the logo.

“I introduced Candace to the person who made the logo,” West wrote. “They didn’t want their name on it so she used mine. I never wanted any association with Blexit. I have nothing to do with it.”

On Saturday, Page Six reported that during a recent Washington, D.C., event Owens thanked West for his design of the Blexit logo, adding that West “has taken one of the boldest steps in America to open a conversation we have needed to have.” Owens later downplayed her statement on Twitter, saying that the project was entirely hers.

In his Twitter rant on Tuesday, West also said he supported “common-sense gun laws that will make our world safer.”

This is a reversal for the musician, who has been an outspoken supporter of President Trump.

Earlier this month, West showed up to a meeting with the president in the Oval Office wearing a “Make America Great Again” hat.

“When I put this hat on, it made me feel like Superman,” said West. “You made a Superman cape for me.”

In late September, West appeared as the musical guest on “Saturday Night Live” and surprised viewers during the cast sign-off at the end of the show by wearing a MAGA hat, speaking about President Trump and slamming the media.
