Principal photography is underway for Scottish actress Karen Gillan’s feature film directorial debut of the project previously known as “Tupperware Party.”

Best known to film audiences for roles such as Nebula in the “Guardians of the Galaxy” franchise and for her portrayal of Amelia Pond, co-star to the Eleventh Doctor in the popular BBC adventure series “Doctor Who,” Gillan is writing, directing and starring in the untitled drama.

Gillan previously directed two short films, “Coward,” which had its premiere at the Edinburgh Film Festival, and “Conventional.”

Gillan leads the cast that also include Lee Pace (“The Hobbit”), Matthew Beard (“An Education,” “The Imitation Game”), Paul Higgins (“Utopia,” “In The Loop”), Siobhan Redmond (“Alice Through The Looking Glass”) and Katie Dickie (“Prometheus,” “The Witch”).

From Gillan’s screenplay, the story follows a young woman’s journey after the loss of someone close to her and her experiences struggling to rediscover herself.

The film, which is shooting in Glasgow, Scotland, is executive produced by Mt. Hollywood Films’ R. Andru Davies, Albert Gersten and Sloan Martin, and produced by Gillan’s producing partner Mali Elfman, with Tien Huei Grace Yeh and Claire Mundell of Synchronicity Films.

This project marks a significant milestone for producer Elfman, who explained, “It’s been a long journey with Karen preparing for this film. From our shorts to years developing the script. Seeing it come to life, in the place that inspired her to write it, is such a privilege. We have a great UK team that has come together to bring Scotland and Karen’s vision to life.”

Gillan added, “I am very grateful to have such a wonderful team in Scotland bringing this story to the screen, along with a plethora of talented actors to inhabit it.”

Davies concurred, saying, “We are thrilled about the prospect of supporting such a female driven project, something which is a bit of rarity in our industry in recent times. We couldn’t be more excited that the film has started shooting, and that we have brought together the top talent from the UK and the US. Karen has written an extremely exciting script that is close to her heart, and will allow audiences to see her incredible talent not just as an actress but also as a director.”

Gillan is repped by Troika in the UK, UTA in the U.S and Darren Trattner at Jackoway Tyerman Wertheimer Austen Mandlebaum Morris & Klein. Pace is repped by WME and Management 360.
