Kate Mara Shows Skin, Talks ‘House of Cards’ Season 2 for GQ (Photos)

Despite playing a young, ambitious journalist in the D.C.-set drama, Mara said she had no interest in shadowing an actual journalist when developing her character

Kate Mara is showing a whole lot more of herself in GQ just before Netflix subscribers will be seeing a whole lot more of her on Season 2 of “House of Cards.”

The 30-year-old actress posed in panties for her interview in the magazine’s March issue, in which reveals how she developed her ambitious journalist character in the political thriller from creator Beau Willimon — and journalism had nothing to do with it.

“I didn’t shadow anyone. Any questions I had I went to Beau. But being a journalist wasn’t the most important thing for me. That was just her job–it could be anything,” Mara said. “The most important aspect of Zoe that I felt I needed to understand and wrap my head around was her crazy drive and ambition. Sitting around with Beau and Fincher and Kevin, just setting the backstories–that’s where I got all of my information.”

It’s not uncommon for stars of hit television shows or movies to avoid watching them, but rest assured, Mara is just as addicted to “House of Cards” as you are.

“Last year, before Season 1 came out, I had seen all the episodes; this year I haven’t, so I’m just as excited to watch it like anyone else,” Mara said. “Still, I think it’s just as surprising and addictive. Hopefully, we’ll see.”

Mara thinks it will be “hard to top” the show’s first season, however, has full faith that Willimon and his writing staff “really pulled through.”

She’ll find out with the rest of us when “House of Cards” returns for our binge-viewing pleasure on Friday. Until then, enjoy the view, courtesy of GQ:
