Kate Winslet in Talks for ‘Mountain Between Us’ With Idris Elba

Movie adaptation revolves around an unlikely pair forced to survive in the wintry wild

Kate Winslet is currently in negotiations to star in Fox 2000’s “The Mountain Between Us” with Idris Elba, TheWrap has learned.

The film, to be directed by Hany Abu-Assad (“Paradise Now”), is an adaptation of Charles Martin’s novel of the same name.

A romantic drama, the story revolves around a woman and man who are brought together by chance after they charter a flight to return home. Things turn bad when their plane crashes in the snowy wilderness.

She’s engaged to be married, he’s a surgeon and together they have to forge a path to survival.

The film is being produced by Peter Chernin and Jenno Topping of Chernin Entertainment.

Chris Weitz wrote the current screenplay.

Fox is tentatively planning to start filming in December in British Columbia.

Seven-time Oscar nominee Winslet won an Academy Award for 2008’s “The Reader.” She is set to star alongside Will Smith in New Line’s “Collateral Beauty,” opening Dec. 16.

Winslet is represented by CAA and United Agents.
