Katie Couric to Guest Co-Host ‘Good Morning America’ Next Week

Couric goes head-to-head with Matt Lauer and her former “Today” cohorts

Sorry Matt Lauer: Katie Couric is returning to morning television next week, but she'll be paired with George Stephanopoulos.

Couric, whose ABC daytime talk show will premiere on Sept. 10, will fill in for the vacationing Robin Roberts. She joins Stephanopoulos, Sam Champion, Lara Spencer and Josh Elliott.

Spencer made the announcement on "GMA" Thursday. Stephanopoulos told Roberts, "You get to throw away your alarm clock for the week and she has to dust hers off."

Couric also shared the new on Twitter Thursday: "Rise + shine! Excited to be back on morning TV next wk, guest hosting @GMA w/ @GStephanopoulos. #KatieOnGMA."

The "GMA" stint marks the first time Couric has co-hosted a morning show since she left "Today" in 2006.
