Keith Hernandez Named President of Slate

Former BuzzFeed VP of brand strategy starts Nov. 2; website to do away with publisher title

Slate.com named Keith Hernandez its president on Wednesday. The position, which he begins Nov. 2, is a new role for the website.

Hernandez comes over from BuzzFeed, where he served as VP of brand strategy. He previously worked for Vevo, Microsoft and The Onion.

His move to Slate comes as the site transitions to a branded content platform for advertising. Dan Check, vice president of The Slate Group, said Hernandez adds to the company’s evolution.

“Part of this is we’re really thinking about how to organize the business side in order to set us up for success,” he said.

“We came across many impressive candidates during our search, and Keith was, by far, the right leader for the role,” chairman Jacob Weinberg added.

“Besides being incredibly smart and having a track record of great client relationships, he helped to grow a brand that we, at Slate, have admired since its inception,” Weinberg continued. “His passion and insight into the digital landscape are going to be tremendous advantages to our leadership team.”

Hernandez’s appointment ends the role of publisher for the site.
