Kenny Loggins Wants to Make a New ‘Danger Zone’ for ‘Top Gun: Maverick’

Loggins teases that he might get a current pop star to update one of the biggest hits of the 80s

“Danger Zone” became instantly iconic icon when Kenny Loggins performed the Giorgio Moroder-penned song for the classic Tom Cruise film “Top Gun.” Now, as Cruise and Val Kilmer get ready to climb back into the cockpit for “Top Gun: Maverick,” the Yacht Rock co-captain teases that he might make a new version of the song for the upcoming film.

On Thursday, TMZ released a video in which they asked Loggins at an airport whether he would be involved in the new film. Loggins responded by saying he caught up with Cruise on the set of “The Tonight Show” and was told by the action star that he planned to involve Loggins with the film in some capacity.

Loggins isn’t spilling what exactly he would be doing for “Top Gun 2,” but he did suggest bringing in a current pop star — likely a male one — to put their own spin on “Danger Zone.” It’s also possible that he may end up doing an updated version of the other song he wrote for the movie, “Playing With The Boys,” which is famously played during the iconic (and infamous) shirtless beach volleyball scene.

“Top Gun: Maverick” is currently filming in San Diego and is scheduled to for takeoff on July 12, 2019.
