The film, formerly titled simply “McFarland” before it got an injection of patriotism, follows novice runners from McFarland, an economically-challenged town in California’s farm-rich Central Valley. With the arrival of Coach Jim White (Costner), a newcomer to their predominantly Latino high school, the students begin to tap into their natural running ability and change the course of their lives.
