Kevin Spacey has been cut from Ridley Scott’s completed film “All the Money in the World,” individuals with knowledge of the decision told TheWrap.
Scott has chosen Christopher Plummer to fill in for Spacey in the Sony Pictures release, where he portrayed mogul J. Paul Getty. Reshoots will commence immediately, one of the insiders said, and Scott insists the film will make its planned Dec. 22 limited opening.
It’s a rare move to entirely recast an actor from a finished print. The kidnapping thriller was set to screen next week as the closing gala of the annual AFI Film Festival. News of the recasting broke very shortly after director Scott and production Imperative Entertainment made the decision.
Spacey’s axing comes on the heels of numerous accusations of sexual misconduct made over the past weeks. Several men, some of who said they were minors at time they encountered Spacey, complained of inappropriate sexual relationships, groping and other behavior over several decades.
Spacey’s professional life has unraveled quickly since “Star Trek: Discovery” star Anthony Rapp accused him of making sexual advances when the latter was 14 years old. More than a dozen men subsequently came forward with allegations of sexual misconduct by the Oscar winner.

Spacey’s agency CAA and publicist Staci Wolfe both fired the actor. Production has been suspended on his Netflix drama “House of Cards.” The streaming giant publicly stated they would no longer release the series if Spacey continued on it, and said similarly they would not release a finished Gore Vidal pic lead by the actor.
A former rep for Spacey told TheWrap last week he was seeking treatment and evaluation.
