"Kick-Ass 2" will muscle its way into theaters on June 28, 2013, Universal said Wednesday.
Aaron Johnson, Chloë Grace Moretz and Christopher Mintz-Plasse will reprise their roles in the new film, but original director Matthew Vaughn will just produce this time. Jeff Wadlow ("Never Back Down") will write and direct "Kick-Ass 2."
Universal is also shifting around the release dates of many of its major films, including the 3D re-release of "Jurassic Park," the Keanu Reeves martial arts adventure "47 Ronin," the Jason Bateman comedy "Identity Thief," and the supernatural thriller "R.I.P.D."
The studio also said that "About Time," a new romantic comedy from "Love Actually" director Richard Curtis, will premiere on May 10, 2013. The film stars Rachel McAdams, Domhnall Gleeson, Tom Hollander and Bill Nighy.
"2 Guns," an action film starring Denzel Washington and Mark Wahlberg, will debut on Aug. 16, 2013.
The 3D retrofitting of "Jurassic Park" will move from July 19, 2013 to April 5, 2013, where it will face off against the Colin Farrell action thriller "Dead Man Down" and the Sandra Bullock comedy "The Heat."
"Identity Thief," which reunites Bateman with his "Horrible Bosses" director Seth Gordon, will move from May 10, 2013, to Feb. 8, 2013. It will open opposite Steven Soderbergh and Channing Tatum's latest collaboration, "The Bitter Pill," and the big-screen adaptation of Nicholas Sparks' "Safe Haven."
"47 Ronin" will move from spring into the Christmas season. Originally scheduled to debut on Feb. 8, 2013, the film will now premiere on Dec. 25, 2013. Also opening that day is Ben Stiller's remake of "The Secret Life of Walter Mitty."
"R.I.P.D.," which stars Ryan Reynolds and Jeff Bridges, will shift from June 28, 2013 to July 19, 2013 — a date it has all to itself, though the next week brings the new "Wolverine" film.
