Kim Fields Joins Cast of Netflix Comedy Series ‘The Upshaws’

She’ll star alongside Wanda Sykes and Mike Epps

Kim Fields has been cast in Wanda Sykes and Mike Epps’ “The Upshaws” Netflix series.

Fields will play Regina Upshaw opposite Sykes and Epps, who also executive produce the multi-camera comedy, which centers on a “working-class African American family in Indiana struggling to make it work and make it right without the blueprints to do it,” according to Netflix.

Fields’ Regina is the wife of Epps’ character, Bennie Upshaw and sister of Sykes’ character, Lucretia. Regina is described as Bennie’s “high school sweetheart, now wife, and the mother of his three children. Regina works in medical billing at a local hospital and struggles to stay upbeat and keep her family happy — and her husband in check — while pursuing goals of her own.”

Epps’ Bennie is described as  “the lovable, charming, thug-adjacent head of the Upshaw family. He runs a garage in Indianapolis and is constantly butting heads with his sister-in-law, Lucretia, who believes her sister could have and do better. As a husband and father of four children, he tries his best (not always successfully) to figure things out without a blueprint. ”

Sykes, who also serves as co-showrunner in addition to starring and executive producing, stars as Lucretia, who “collects disability after falling from a jetway at the airport. She is a real estate owner and silent partner in Bennie’s garage, only stomaching his antics for her sister. She will always believe it’s not too late for her sister to get out of her marriage,” according to Netflix.

Fields is known for starring in the long-running series “Facts of Life” on NBC and “Living Single” on Fox. She joined the cast of “The Real Housewives of Atlanta” for one season in 2015 and competed on “Dancing With the Stars” in 2016, finishing in eighth place.

Regina Hicks (“The LWord,” “Insecure”) serves as showrunner and executive producer alongside Sykes and Epps. Page Hurwitz (“Wanda Sykes: Not Normal,” “Tiffany Haddish Presents They Ready”) and Niles Kirchner (“Only One Mike”) also executive produce.

“The Upshaws” is set to premiere later this year on Netflix.
