They say in space no one can hear you scream, but what about beneath seven miles of water?
In 20th Century Fox’s upcoming horror film “Underwater,” Kristen Stewart tries to escape evil forces not from the depths of the galaxy but at the bottom of the ocean. The cast’s futuristic diving bells still look a lot like space suits, however, giving William Eubank’s film a haunting “Alien” vibe even thousands of leagues under the sea.
Stewart stars alongside T.J. Miller, Vincent Cassel, John Gallagher Jr. Jessica Henwick, Mamoudou Athie and Gunner Wright as part of a team of researchers who scramble for their survival after an earthquake ravages their ship.
“On a scale from 1-10, how bad is my rig,” Cassel asks Stewart. “Ten,” she replies.
So what’s the plan of action when you’re five miles from land and seven miles deep? How about walking? The crew walk along the pitch black ocean floor to try and get to another underwater laboratory, but the unknown creatures they find there aren’t friendly.
Brian Duffield and Adam Cozad for “Underwater,” which is produced by Peter Chernin, Tonia Davis, Kevin Halloran and Jenno Topping. Disney and 20th Century Fox are releasing “Underwater” on Jan. 10, 2020.
