Lady Gaga to Perform on the Oscars

She joins a show lineup heavy on musical performances

Lady Gaga will perform on this year’s Academy Awards show, she and Oscar producers Craig Zadan and Neil Meron announced via Twitter on Thursday.

Zadan also tweeted a photo of Gaga at Oscar rehearsals along with the two producers and Oscar music director Stephen Oremus, above.

In the Academy press release that followed the tweet, Gaga’s performance was described as “a special tribute.”

She joins an Oscar lineup that is already heavy on music. The five Oscar-nominated songs will be performed by Adam Levine, Rita Ora, Tim McGraw, John Legend and Common, and Tegan and Sara with the Lonely Island, while host Neil Patrick Harris will perform a new song written for the Oscars by “Frozen” songwriters Robert Lopez and Kristin Anderson-Lopez.

Zadan and Meron have also announced that Jack Black, Anna Kendrick and Jennifer Hudson will perform on the show, and sources with knowledge of the producers’ plans say they are going to stage a salute to an Oscar-winning musical that is celebrating an anniversary this year.

The 87th Academy Awards will take place on Sunday, Feb. 22 at the Dolby Theatre in the Hollywood & Highland Complex in Hollywood.
