The girlfriend of Las Vegas gunman Stephen Paddock says she had no idea that he was planning the shooting that left 59 people dead Sunday night at a Las Vegas music festival, the Associated Press reports.
Marilou Danley, Paddock’s girlfriend, issued a statement after she was questioned by FBI agents upon returning from two weeks in her native Philippines.
“He never said anything to me or took any action that I was aware of that I understood in any way to be a warning that something horrible like this was going to happen,” the statement read.
Danley, 62, who has been considered a “person of interest” by investigators, said she was worried when Paddock sent her money that it was a way to break up with her.
“It never occurred to me in any way whatsoever that he was planning violence against anyone,” she continued.
She said she was “devastated” by the carnage, adding that Paddock was a “kind, caring, quiet man.”
Investigators have yet to uncover a motive for the shooting Sunday that left more than 500 people injured before Paddock took his own life in his room at Mandalay Bay.
