Laura Ingraham Calls Kavanaugh Accusation a ‘Political Smear Masquerading as a Sexual Assault Allegation’

Fox News host says hearing from Kavanaugh accuser Christine Blasey Ford will prove nothing

Fox News host Laura Ingraham made it clear to viewers Monday night that she was skeptical of the sexual misconduct allegation against Brett Kavanaugh.

“This all has a whiff of a political smear masquerading as a sexual assault allegation,” she said on set.”It’s impossible to prove a negative and questioning Ms. Ford and Brett Kavanaugh on this matter? It’s unlikely to reveal anything new.”

Elsewhere on the show, Ingraham noted that the judge had no prior issues with sexual misconduct and cited glowing testimonials from those close to him.

“When someone’s a creep, you know it,” she said. “I’ve never heard anything like that about him.”

On Monday, news emerged that the Kavanaugh vote in the Senate Judiciary committee would be delayed to allow both Kavanaugh and Christine Blasey Ford to offer sworn testimony.

In a Washington Post report on Sunday, Ford publicly accused Kavanaugh of sexually assaulting her while drunk at a party during the early 1980s when they were both in high school. Her lawyer subsequently described the incident as “attempted rape.”

Kavanaugh has categorically denied the incident ever took place.

The allegation has nevertheless thrown his once smooth nomination into turmoil, with the full weight of the MeToo movement now bearing down. On Monday, the women’s legal advocacy organization Times Up called for an immediate delay in the vote until the allegations could be fully investigated.

“A man who could be our next U.S. Supreme Court Justice has been accused of sexual assault. There is no path forward for Brett Kavanaugh’s nomination until those credible and serious allegations have been investigated,” said the group in a statement.

“We demand that the U.S. Senate postpone any vote on Judge Kavanaugh’s nomination until a thorough and complete examination has been completed.”
