Fox Fall Schedule: ‘Lethal Weapon’ as New ‘Empire’ Lead-in, ‘Exorcist’ Banished to Friday

Upfronts 2016: “Rocky Horror Picture Show” is set for October; Jack Bauer-less “24: Legacy” gets coveted post-Super Bowl debut

Fox unveiled its fall and midseason schedules Monday morning ahead of the network’s annual upfront presentation at the Beacon Theatre in New York City.

Here are the highlights: New series “Lethal Weapon” will serve as “Empire’s” fall lead-in starting in late September, pushing “Rosewood” to Thursday, where it’ll share a simpatico posthumous procedural primetime with “Bones.” Synergy!

Fellow film-to-TV adaptation “The Exorcist” has been banished to Fridays, following “Hell’s Kitchen,” and the ambitious “Son of Zorn” becomes the meat in the Sunday “Simpsons”/”Family Guy” animated sandwich.

Musical “The Rocky Horror Picture Show” has been set for October 2016.

Midseason, “24: Legacy” and “APB” take Monday, Lee Daniels‘ “Star” joins his “Empire” Wednesdays, and “Prison Break” is back on Thursdays. Kaitlin Olson‘s “The Mick” and reality competition “Kicking & Screaming” join the Tuesday comedy block, while “Making History” relieves “Son of Zorn” on weekends.

Later in the spring, “Pitch” and “Shots Fired” come to Tuesday and Wednesday nights, respectively. Finally, “My Kitchen Rules” will come midseason, though it doesn’t have a night and time just yet. The full available schedules are below.

Of course, Fox will also cash in with “Super Bowl LI,” and plans to debut “24: Legacy” right out of the big game.

All that makes for a very excited (and probably very tired) Dana Walden and Gary Newman (pictured above).

“Next season on Fox, we’ll have more original programming across our schedule than ever before,” the Fox co-CEOs said. “We’ll use our strong established hits in the fall and Super Bowl LI in winter to launch a diverse slate of shows that are unmistakably Fox. We’re proud of our new series, directed and created by some of the most celebrated talent in the entertainment industry. And, we are pleased to be returning to our schedule many of our most beloved shows, including broadcast’s No. 1 series, ‘Empire!’”

Walden and Newman will host a media conference call at 9 a.m. ET to discuss the schedule. Their actual upfront presentation begins at 4 o’clock this afternoon.
