‘Life Itself,’ ‘Merchants of Doubt,’ ‘Virunga’ Land Producers Guild Documentary Nominations

PGA television nominees include “Breaking Bad,” “House of Cards,” “True Detective” and “Orange Is the New Black”

The Roger Ebert documentary “Life Itself” and Netflix’s moving, Congo-set “Virunga” are among the five films nominated by the Producers Guild as the outstanding documentaries of 2014, the PGA announced on Monday.

Other nominees were “The Green Prince,” “Merchants of Doubt” and “Particle Fever.” The most talked-about doc of recent weeks, Laura Poitras’ “Citizenfour,” was not nominated.

In television nominations, the drama series category includes “Breaking Bad,” “Downton Abbey,” “Game of Thrones,” “House of Cards” and “True Detective,” while the comedy category lineup is “The Big Bang Theory,” “Louie,” “Modern Family,” “Orange Is the New Black” and “Veep.”
